United States Senate Youth Program – Education • Leadership • Public Service Washington Week Slideshow Brochure and National Press Announcement Annual Public Affairs Exam State Contacts and Deadlines Overview for Senate Staff Education • Leadership • Public Service The United States Senate Youth Program, established in 1962 by U.S. Senate Resolution, is a unique educational experience for outstanding high school students interested in pursuing careers in public service.
The 65th annual United States Senate Youth Program Washington Week will be in Washington, D. C. March 6 – 13, 2027.
The national deadline for all states to submit their delegate selections is December 1, 2026. Two student leaders from each state, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Education Activity will spend a week in Washington experiencing their national government in action. Students must be actively serving in high-level elected or appointed leadership positions to qualify to apply (see How to Apply) .
Student delegates will hear major policy addresses by Senators, Cabinet Members, officials from the Departments of State and Defense and directors of other federal agencies, as well as usually participate in meetings with the President and a Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. All transportation, hotel and meal expenses will be provided by The Hearst Foundations .
In addition, each delegate will also be awarded a $12,500 college scholarship for undergraduate studies, with encouragement to pursue coursework in history and political science. To apply, please contact your state selection contact. COVID-19 UPDATE: The 59th annual United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP) will be held in an online format for 2021.
Washington Week ONLINE will take place March 14 – 18, 2021 and will be a fully immersive learning experience incorporating the key elements of the program week in an exciting, interactive format. Two students from each state will be selected to attend the online program and each will receive a $10,000 undergraduate college scholarship. Students must attend the entirety of the program to receive the scholarship.
Students may qualify to apply through leadership positions they currently hold per the USSYP official criteria for the current 2020-2021 academic year, OR if students are unable to hold leadership positions this year due to the pandemic, they can submit a qualifying position held during the 2019-2020 academic year. All student leadership positions are subject to the judgement and verification of the state selection administrators.

The Robotics Grant Program is a grant from the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) that funds school-based robotics programs for elementary, middle, and high school students. Awarded through a competitive application process, the program provides up to $3,500 to eligible local education agencies (LEAs) in Alabama. Applicants must be public school systems submitting on behalf of schools with K–12 students. The grant supports the purchase of robotics equipment and program development aligned with AMSTI guidelines. Applications are submitted online through the AMSTI Robotics Grant portal.
