Google.org has opened applications for two major AI funding programs totaling $60 million, targeting organizations using artificial intelligence to transform public services and accelerate scientific discovery. Both programs accept applications from nonprofits, social enterprises, and academic institutions worldwide.
$30M for Government Innovation
The AI for Government Innovation Impact Challenge funds partnerships that use generative and agentic AI to improve public services. Priority areas include healthcare access, crisis resilience, and economic infrastructure. Individual awards range from $1 million to $3 million.
Applicants must demonstrate an active partnership with a government entity. A review panel including Google subject matter experts and external partners from Apolitical and the Centre for Public Impact will evaluate proposals. Applications close April 3, 2026.
$30M for Scientific Breakthroughs
The AI for Science Impact Challenge targets researchers using AI to advance health and life sciences or climate resilience and environmental science. Awards range from $500,000 to $3 million per organization.
Proposals must show scientific ambition with quantifiable metrics and demonstrate innovative, responsible AI use. The program specifically seeks projects in predictive biology, foundational models for biological mechanisms, planetary systems modeling, and novel preservation approaches. Applications close April 17, 2026.
Beyond the Check
Selected organizations in both programs receive more than funding. Google's Accelerator program provides six months of pro bono technical support from Google AI engineers, curriculum on AI strategy and responsible governance, and Google Cloud credits for accessing AI development tools.
The two challenges represent the largest private AI-for-good funding opportunity currently open. Nonprofits and research institutions working at the intersection of AI and public benefit should note the tight April deadlines.
