Luxembourg's Ministry of the Economy, the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR), and Luxinnovation have launched a joint call for collaborative R&D projects in artificial intelligence, data science, and quantum technologies — with funding up to €700,000 per company partner and €500,000 per research organization.
The call, announced February 25, targets consortia that pair private-sector companies with public research organizations. No single partner can contribute more than 70% of project costs, enforcing genuine collaboration rather than subcontracting arrangements.
Three Thematic Tracks
Data-based solutions — large-scale simulations, predictive modeling, and data infrastructure projects that advance analytical capabilities across sectors.
AI applications — process optimization, automation, and trustworthy AI systems. The emphasis on trustworthiness reflects the EU AI Act's compliance requirements, making funded projects immediately relevant to European market access.
Quantum technologies — algorithms, simulation tools, and secure quantum communication systems. Projects at the intersection of quantum computing and AI are explicitly encouraged.
Timeline and Eligibility
The process runs in two phases. Phase 1 project outlines are due between March 1 and April 1, 2026. Full proposals for Phase 2 are due between April 30 and July 1, with funding decisions expected in October 2026. Projects run 24 to 36 months.
A webinar on March 5 will detail the application process. Luxinnovation provides the online submission platform.
Why This Matters Beyond Europe
International research teams with Luxembourg-based partners or EU subsidiaries are eligible. For U.S. and Canadian AI researchers eyeing European collaboration, this call offers a structured entry point with meaningful funding — and projects aligned with EU AI Act compliance will carry strategic value well beyond the grant period.
Researchers tracking global AI funding opportunities can find similar calls through discovery platforms like Granted, which indexes international grant programs alongside U.S. federal and foundation funding.
