NSF Launches AI-Ready America Initiative With Hubs in Every State

The National Science Foundation is building a nationwide AI infrastructure network, announcing funding for up to 56 coordination hubs — one in every U.S. state, territory, and Washington, D.C. — to make AI tools and training accessible to workers, small businesses, and local governments.

The TechAccess: AI-Ready America initiative will award up to $1 million annually per hub over three years, with a potential fourth year for hubs demonstrating sustained need. Four federal agencies are partnering on the effort.

Three Pillars of the Hub Model

Each hub will pursue three objectives: expanding AI literacy and applied skills across the American workforce, equipping small businesses and local governments with AI adoption tools and technical assistance, and building hands-on learning pathways including internships and project-based programs.

Hubs will connect local partners, coordinate deployment of AI resources, and scale proven approaches based on state and local priorities. The initiative is designed to be bottom-up rather than prescriptive.

Four Agencies, One Deadline

NSF leads the initiative in partnership with USDA's National Institute of Food and Agriculture, the Department of Labor, and the Small Business Administration. Letters of intent are due June 16, 2026, with full proposals due July 16, 2026. An informational webinar is scheduled for April 14, 2026, at 1 p.m. EDT.

Who Should Apply

Universities, community colleges, workforce development boards, and economic development organizations are natural fits. The multi-agency backing signals that proposals connecting AI training to agricultural, labor market, or small business outcomes will be competitive.
