AARP. org/CommunityChallenge Our annual "quick-action" grant program funds local projects that help make communities more livable for people of all ages Since its debut in 2017, the AARP Community Challenge has invested $24. 3 million in 2,100 livability projects, with a focus on meeting the needs of adults age 50 or older.
In 2026, AARP is doubling its annual investment and will be awarding more than $8 million in community-improving grants. Watch 10 Years of the AARP Community Challenge to learn about the program's history. The application period for the 2026 AARP Community Challenge is now closed.
