** Launched to support and elevate autistic voices in research, this program provides **$40,000 per year for two years** to qualified predoctoral students pursuing careers in autism research. Funding includes a $28,000 stipend and a $12,000 allowance for research-related expenses.
“We’re proud to continue investing in the next generation of autistic researchers—scientists whose lived experience and academic expertise are helping shape a more inclusive, responsive future for autism research,” said Andy Shih, chief science officer at Autism Speaks. “Their work is not only advancing our understanding of autism, but also redefining how research can better serve the community.
” This fellowship is open to autistic students in research doctoral programs (PhD, ScD, MD/PhD, etc.) with at least two years remaining in their program. Applicants from both U.S. and international institutions are encouraged to apply.
## While proposals on all autism-related topics are welcome, priority will be given to projects focused on: * Adult transition and aging * Dangerous or self-injurious behaviors * Co-occurring medical and mental health conditions * Development of novel and meaningful outcome measures * Gender, sexual and reproductive health * Innovative tech for low-resource settings * Pre-clinical studies targeting the most disabling aspects of autism * Research that informs policy or improves service systems * Research that benefits marginalized communities * Support for autistic people with intellectual disability and those using AAC Past fellows have examined topics such as sensory processing differences, autistic burnout, research bias in studying autistic cognition and how movement impacts social attention in toddlers.
