aLittleHope – The National Foundation for Grieving Children Teens and Families “Our mission is to help provide bereavement support services and grief counseling for children, teens and young adults who have experienced the loss of a parent, sibling, or a loved one, regardless of the circumstances of the death. ” A Little HOPE, is the first national organization raising funds for children's grief support and bereavement programs.
Launched in 2015 in partnership with Comfort Zone Camp to support families affected by suicide loss. The organization continuously develops new initiatives to help grieving children and young adults. A Little HOPE, Inc. is a ground breaking not for profit, publicly supported charitable foundation founded in early 2002, as a response to the World Trade Center tragedy.
After witnessing many bereaved children now having to face a new reality – life without their mother or father – we wanted to find a way to offer them hope for the future. Richard H. Schimel, President and a founding board member recalls, “We were trying to think of what we could do and my thought was, how do you help the children because they’re really the ones left behind”.
Prior to the existence of A Little Hope, Inc. there was not a single national organization dedicated to raising money to advance the growth of children’s grief support and the expansion of bereavement centers, school outreach programs and camps for grieving children and teens in the United States. A Little Hope continues to create innovative programs to support grieving children.
In 2015 A Little Hope partnered with Comfort Zone Camp to creat a suicide loss camp for children, young adults and their families. Our Suicide Loss Camps are specifically designed to bring together children, young adults, parents and guardians, allowing them to grieve, heal and grow surrounded by those who have shared a similar loss. It is our passion to continue supporting individuals through the emotional pain that loss brings.
