Active Citizenship Grants is sponsored by Henry Luce Foundation. The Luce Foundation funds projects that expand citizen access to news and information, educate the next generation of citizens, and strengthen the capacity of communities and civil society organizations.

Democracy & Civic Life Grant Categories - Henry Luce Foundation Democracy & Civic Life Grant Categories The Democracy and Civic Life Initiative ( formerly Democracy, Ethics, and Public Trust ) welcomes proposals related to its three focus areas: Equipping Citizens for Active Citizenship Practicing Democratic Participation Disseminating Successful Approaches Active Citizenship Grants The Luce Foundation funds projects that expand citizen access to news and information​, educate the next generation of citizens, and strengthen the capacity of communities and civil society organizations.

Democratic Participation Grants The Foundation supports efforts to develop and test new democratic approaches​, to undertake community-based visioning and problem solving​, and to defend core democratic rights and privileges​.

Luce invests in research into and evaluation of democratic strategies and practices, convenings, and publications​ that share knowledge about best practices, and organizations with a proven track record of success. The Luce Foundation’s Democracy and Civic Life Initiative primarily supports projects in the United States.

Grant applications for this program are typically invited; however we reserve a limited amount of funding for unsolicited proposals. If you would like to bring your project or organization to the Foundation’s attention, please complete and submit a Concept Note through the grants portal.
