To help organizations continue this important work, several foundations are offering grant opportunities to fund program expansion, enhance access to care, and support community-based solutions. Below are four grants available to nonprofits working to address mental health and addiction in their communities.

American Psychiatric Association Foundation - MOORE Equity in Mental Health Community Grants Program The American Psychiatric Association Foundation (APAF) works to support mental health through education, research, leadership, and service.

As part of its commitment to addressing disparities in mental health care, APAF established the MOORE Equity in Mental Health Community Grants Program to provide funding to nonprofits working to improve the mental health of young people of color through innovative programs and services.

Grant recipients will be selected based on one or more of the following initiatives: Delivering innovative programming that addresses mental health and substance use disorder inequities. Promoting awareness of mental health and substance use disorder inequities. Increasing equitable access to mental health and substance use disorder care.

Enhancing the quality of culturally and linguistically appropriate services in mental health and substance use disorder care. Applicants must be U.S.-based nonprofit organizations with tax-exempt status under IRS Section 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), or 501(c)(6).

Organizations must have been operational for at least two consecutive years and demonstrate recent work supporting young people of color through mental health or substance use disorder initiatives. Award Range: Up to $10,000 Deadline: September 30, 2025 Centene Foundation Grants The Centene Foundation supports nonprofit organizations working to improve community health through local, long-term partnerships.

Reflecting Centene’s broader mission to transform the health of communities, the Foundation invests in initiatives that promote physical health, mental wellness, and emotional well-being. Its approach emphasizes supporting the whole person, empowering individuals to create healthy habits, and helping communities build stronger support systems.

The Foundation will consider projects or programs aligning with one or more of the following focus areas: Healthcare (Including Drivers of Health) Applicants must be nonprofits with tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) or Section 170(b) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Deadline: May 31, 2025, and November 29, 2025 The Gupta Family Foundation is a private nonprofit that supports nonprofit organizations working to help disadvantaged individuals become self-reliant. The Foundation defines “disadvantaged” broadly and includes people affected by addiction, social isolation, and mental health challenges.

Priority is given to smaller, community-based organizations that embody the Foundation’s mission of helping disadvantaged individuals become self-reliant. The Foundation also favors grantees that ensure that at least 90% of grant funds reach their intended beneficiaries.

Qualifying organizations are typically US-based 501(c)(3) nonprofits, although foreign organizations may also qualify for grants by submitting the GFF Foreign Entity Affidavit and participating in a video interview and site visit.

Award Range: $5,000 - $250,000 Deadline: August 31, 2025 The Lawrence Foundation is a private family foundation that provides grants to U.S.-based nonprofits addressing a wide range of issues, including mental health, addiction, and other topics related to human services.

The foundation supports both program-specific and general operating requests, as all grants are awarded as unrestricted funds, giving organizations the flexibility to use the funding where it is needed most. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits, as well as public schools and libraries.
