About This Grant
Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) OPEN 2026 is sponsored by U.S. Department of Energy (ARPA-E). Seeks high-risk, high-reward technologies in energy including perovskite solar with circular materials, recycling innovations, and pilot-scale demonstrations. This program should be reviewed carefully against your organization's mission, staffing capacity, timeline, and compliance readiness before you commit resources to a full application. Strong submissions usually translate sponsor priorities into concrete objectives, clear implementation milestones, and measurable public benefit.
For planning purposes, treat April 1, 2026 as your working submission target unless the sponsor publishes an updated notice. A competitive project plan should include a documented need statement, implementation approach, evaluation framework, risk controls, and a realistic budget narrative. Even when a grant allows broad program design, reviewers still expect credible evidence that the proposed work can be executed within the grant period and with appropriate accountability.
Current published award information indicates $1 million - $10 million Organizations should verify the final funding range, matching requirements, and allowability rules directly in the official opportunity materials before preparing a budget. Finance and program teams should align early so direct costs, indirect costs, staffing assumptions, procurement timelines, and reporting obligations all remain consistent throughout drafting and post-award administration.
Eligibility guidance for this opportunity is: U.S. universities, nonprofits, for-profits; teams encouraged If your organization has partnerships, subrecipients, or collaborators, define responsibilities and compliance ownership before submission. Reviewers often look for implementation credibility, so letters of commitment, prior performance evidence, and a clear governance model can materially strengthen the application narrative and reduce concerns about delivery risk.
A practical approach is to begin with a focused readiness review, then build a workback schedule from the sponsor deadline. Confirm required attachments, registration dependencies, and internal approval checkpoints early. This reduces last-minute issues and improves submission quality. For the most accurate requirements, always rely on the official notice and primary source links associated with Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) OPEN 2026.

S. energy independence by increasing domestic supplies of nuclear fuels. The purpose of this Teaming Partner List announcement is to facilitate the formation of new project teams to respond to the potential NOFO.
Any potential NOFO issued in the future would provide specific program goals, technical metrics, and selection criteria. If there are any inconsistencies between this announcement and the potential NOFO, the NOFO language would be controlling. This potential funding opportunity would aim to support the development of transuranic (TRU) fuels that use a largely untapped domestic fissile resource found across U.
S. inventories. TRU fuels offer a path to expanding the nation’s nuclear fuel supply while reducing the volume of radioactive waste.
Economically viable TRU fuels will strengthen U. S. energy security, reduce reliance on foreign sources, and support long-term deployment of new nuclear power plants.
This potential program would fund coordinated efforts spanning fuel design, fabrication, testing, modeling, and qualification, along with analysis of cost, impact, and deployment pathways.
It is anticipated that technologies developed under this potential program will have the ability to enable: A domestic TRU fuel supply chain; A levelized cost of fuel (LCOF) ≤ 1¢/kWh; and TRU fuel qualification and regulatory acceptance within seven years. ARPA-E strongly encourages outstanding scientists and engineers from different organizations, scientific disciplines, and technology sectors to form new project teams.
Interdisciplinary and cross-sector collaboration spanning organizational boundaries enables and accelerates scientific and technological outcomes that were previously viewed as extremely difficult, if not impossible, to achieve. The Teaming Partner List is being compiled to facilitate the formation of new project teams. The Teaming Partner List will be available on ARPA-E eXCHANGE (http://arpa-e-foa.
energy. gov), ARPA-E’s online application portal, starting in January 2026. The Teaming Partner List will be updated periodically until the close of the Full Application period to reflect new Teaming Partners who have provided their information.

Rare earth elements (REEs) and critical minerals are essential for modern energy technologies. REEs are key to high-performance magnets and motors, superconductors, and catalysts—critical components to energy production, transmission, and conversion systems necessary for U. S.
energy security. Affordable and secure domestic critical mineral supply chains will advance future energy competitiveness. The U.
S. possesses significant domestic resources of REEs and other critical minerals but operates only one productive REE mine. The ROCKS program seeks fundamentally disruptive technologies to transform the ore deposit characterization process.
The program will pursue technology that targets order-of-magnitude improvements in characterization with a primary focus on drilling, sensing, and analysis. These advances will shorten the timeline for feasibility assessments of REE and critical mineral deposits, leading to increased access to these resources. In addition, advances in sensing can aid assessment of currently untapped resources, such as seafloor mineral deposits.
By facilitating mine development and increased access to domestic mineral resources, the program furthers ARPA-E’s statutory goals to improve the energy security of the U. S. , ensure resilient and reliable supply chains for energy-relevant materials, and maintain U.
S. technological leadership in critical mineral resource development. The ROCKS program seeks technologies that improve the characterization of critical mineral resources, with an emphasis on REEs.
Technologies of interest are grouped into three main categories: (1) drilling technology to increase penetration rates and core recovery; (2) sensing and analysis technologies to provide higher-resolution mineralogical and geochemical information, in situ or at a distance; and (3) other unique concepts that disrupt the current state of resource characterization for hard rock settings as well as REE-enriched clays, placer deposits, and seafloor resources.
