It is open to permanent, full-time NC State faculty and staff.

Advancing Global Learning at Home Advancing Global Learning at Home Creating new pathways for global learning on the NC State campus Award Amount: Up to $5,000 per project The Office of Global Engagement launched a new funding stream focused on advancing global learning opportunities on campus.

This initiative supports innovative projects that bring international perspectives and global skills development directly to our NC State students here in Raleigh. This funding opportunity is open to permanent, full-time NC State faculty and staff who will remain employed by NC State for the duration of the project. Successful proposals will advance on-campus global learning opportunities for NC State students.

Examples include, but are not limited to: Developing and implementing innovative opportunities for NC State students to engage with international topics and develop global skills through campus-based or other local initiatives. Incorporating international content, comparative perspectives and/or intercultural knowledge into existing NC State courses or curricula.

Designing new courses, curricula or co-curricular initiatives that include significant global dimensions or skills to prepare students for lifelong learning and career success. Fostering vibrant global learning communities on campus, including mutual learning and the exchange of ideas between international and domestic students.

Creating other high-impact experiences that equip students with global awareness and readiness to collaborate in discovery and problem-solving. Global learning at home may take place on campus and in person (e. g, courses, service learning and/or engagement with international visiting experts) or via virtual formats (e.g., virtual exchanges, student group projects or Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL).

2025-2026 Funded Projects The Office of Global Engagement is pleased to announce eight faculty and staff projects funded through our inaugural Advancing Global Learning at Home program, which supports innovative campus-based initiatives that bring international perspectives and global skills development to NC State students.

Application deadline for AY 2026-2027 projects: July 31, 2026 Award notifications: Late August to early September 2026 Proposals will be reviewed by a committee of NC State faculty members representing multiple disciplines and professional staff with experience in global learning programs.

The following criteria will be used to assess proposals: Relevance: Articulation of how the project aligns with university or college-level global learning goals and grant priorities. Feasibility: Effectiveness of project plan to achieve desired outcomes and sustainability of the initiative. Scale of impact: Number of students and other beneficiaries who will benefit from the project.

Innovation: Opportunities that explore new modalities for global learning or otherwise outside-the-box ideas for programs and collaborations, including the internationalization of fields of study that have not traditionally offered global learning options. Stewardship of funds: Clear description of how funds will be utilized during the project period. Tangible outcomes and measures of success from funds expended.

Please note that projects will be supported with state appropriated funds and must follow the associated spending guidelines.

Allowable expenses include: Materials and supplies for curriculum development Temporary student employees for project-related work (undergraduate and graduate students) Costs associated with on campus workshops, symposia or other project-related events Communication and technology costs for virtual collaboration International and domestic travel expenses that enable external collaborators/guest experts to visit NC State’s campus in Raleigh Costs associated with local field site visits, etc. (domestic only) Please note that the following expenses are excluded from this program: Faculty or staff salaries and benefits Graduate student assistantships Outbound international travel for NC State students, faculty or staff members Food and alcoholic beverages, except for hosting international visitors Indirect costs or administrative fees Limited to one application per project leader per funding cycle.

Proposed projects must be North Carolina-based. Activities that require student travel outside the U.S. are out of scope for this program. Projects may be funded at less than the requested amount.

All grant recipients must submit a final report documenting outcomes, challenges, and future plans. Final report with progress and/or project assessment data is due six months after the end of the grant period, December 31, 2027. Note: To remain eligible for future funding from the Office of Global Engagement, all previous grant reports must be completed and submitted.
