We are NASA’s educational arm in New Jersey for higher education, charged with progressing the goals of the National Space Grant program. The National Space Grant program consists of 52 consortia (50 states plus D. C.
and Puerto Rico) and is managed by NASA’s Office of STEM Engagement. The program, and all of its participating institutions, prepare students to become members of the technically literate workforce which NASA and the aerospace industry need.
NJSGC uses its NASA funding to develop fellowship, internship, research, higher education, and outreach programs to further space science, aerospace and STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) education, as well as to foster research and development in New Jersey.
NJSGC acts as an umbrella organization through its 22 affiliates, which include colleges, universities, and institutions in New Jersey, coordinating and developing space science and aerospace-related, high technology, educational, and research efforts. NJSGC creates and encourages educational and research networks.
Our students interact with university researchers, engineers, and scientists from NASA and aerospace industry who involve students in hands-on space technology projects and collaboratively participate in research, higher education, teacher training, and outreach programs. NJSGC has been successful in attracting underrepresented groups to our programs.
