Education Programs | AFCEA NOVA Cultivating Emerging Talent Today for the STEM Workforce of Tomorrow The AFCEA NOVA Education Foundation is dedicated to promoting the critical role science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education plays in shaping the future.
It fosters excellence in education through educational incentives, opportunities, and assistance for teachers and students engaged in STEM-related course work and extra-curricular activities and has awarded more than $1,000,000 in scholarship and grant funding since its inception.
The components of the AFCEA Educational Foundation's present efforts are: Community Education Grants Professional Development Programs The foundation actively promotes opportunities for diversity in STEM fields. AFCEA provides a common ground for learning. We enable our members to serve and help them succeed.
AFCEA NOVA Educational Foundation Initiatives This program provides grants to local K-12 schools to improve hands on science and technology education. Grants are a maximum of $1,500. Science and Engineering Fair Annually, professionals from government agencies and private organizations participate as judges, evaluating science fair projects in a wide variety of categories ranging from plant sciences to physics and astronomy.
Micro Mentoring – Facilitated discussions with industry leaders on selected topics. Reverse Mentoring – Reframing workforce development by shifting the focus of learning. Community Engagement Grants This program provides grants to existing community-based organizations that are engaging students in active STEM learning.
Grants range up to $10,000 and are awarded quarterly based on availability of funds. Northern Virginia Science Center Foundation George Mason AFCEA NOVA Student Chapter Awards merit-based scholarships to qualified students pursuing a Bachelor or Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline at an accredited college or university.
