Affordable Housing Program Affordable Housing Program Affordable Housing Program Building Communities, Changing Lives Millions of Americans — renters, prospective homebuyers and homeowners — struggle to find or maintain affordable housing. The challenge is especially acute for low-income households and communities.
Each year, FHLB Dallas returns millions of dollars — a percentage of our net income — to communities served by our members, in the form of Affordable Housing Program (AHP) grants. These funds strengthen communities by providing funding to members for affordable housing finance that benefits households at or below 80 percent of their area median income.
Whether you are transforming a historic school building to senior housing or funding new duplexes for first-time homebuyers, AHP can help. Since the Affordable Housing Program’s inception in 1990, FHLB Dallas has distributed $577 million, facilitating more than 73,000 units of affordable housing for households earning at or below 80 percent of the median income within FHLB Dallas’ five-state District.
AHP Grants Awarded Since 1990 Awarded to Special-Needs Households since 2009 Down Payment Assistance Since 2002 AHP funds are distributed on an annual basis through the AHP General Fund, the Homebuyer Equity Leverage Partnership (HELP), the Special Needs Assistance Program (SNAP) and Disaster Rebuilding Assistance (DRA).
AHP General Fund provides grants to help finance the purchase, rehabilitation or construction of affordable housing, including owner-occupied and rental housing and housing for homeless individuals and families. Funds are awarded on an annual basis through a competitive application process. HELP provides down payment and closing cost assistance to first-time homebuyers.
SNAP provides grants to modify or rehabilitate homes for those with special needs. DRA provides grants to help homeowners repair or rebuild after disasters.
