The Affordable Housing Trust Fund provides important funding for local housing. It is part of a larger effort to address the housing challenges in Eugene. In 2019, the Eugene City Council created a construction excise tax (CET).
This tax gives the city a steady source of money for affordable housing. That money goes into the Affordable Housing Trust Fund. $4 million from the Affordable Housing Trust Fund (AHTF) will help build 485 new affordable homes in Eugene.
These homes are worth more than $143 million. The AHTF is helping create 303 affordable rental homes, 126 homes for low-income homeowners, and 56 supportive homes for people leaving homelessness. $1 million from the AHTF helped 243 local households stay in their homes by providing rent assistance and preventing foreclosure.
The Affordable Housing Trust Fund can be used for projects and programs that make more affordable housing available for owners and renters with lower incomes.
Examples include: Gap funding to help build new affordable housing Buying existing homes or buildings to turn into affordable housing Help for renters and homebuyers through local agencies and organizations The FY24 & FY25 AHTF Two Year Program Review shows how funds were used and what was achieved. A community advisory committee gives input and recommendations on how the funds are spent.
