AfricaConnect is sponsored by European Union (EU). AfricaConnect, under the EU's Global Gateway Strategy, aims to enhance digital connectivity and research capabilities across Sub-Saharan Africa. The fourth phase focuses on improving access to high-speed connectivity and deepening global collaboration to better support research, education, and innovation.
It also supports the capacity and sustainability of Regional and National Research and Education Networks (RRENs and NRENs) and introduces a national pilot for last-mile connectivity and campus network upgrades. The project also focuses on strengthening digital services, including cloud-based e-infrastructure for secure data storage and sharing to support open science and climate change research.
