UGA Cooperative Extension : Connecting AI research to rural communities, focusing on using technology for improving agriculture, resource management, and local economies. When complete in early 2026, the facility will be a world-class prototyping facility for manufacturers to develop and test new technology. Federally Funded Programs for Manufacturers National Institute of Standards and Technology ( NIST ): Develops standards, guidelines, and best practices for AI, automation, and industrial applications to improve manufacturing efficiency and innovation.
Programs include the Advanced Manufacturing National Program Office, the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (Georgia office located at Georgia Tech), and the NIST Smart Manufacturing Program. National Science Foundation ( NSF ): Funds cutting-edge research in AI, robotics, and manufacturing technologies to foster innovation and improve the manufacturing sector.
AI-focused programs include Smart and Connected Communities, Advanced Manufacturing and Robotics Research, and AI for Manufacturing Innovation. Department of Defense Manufacturing Technology ( ManTech ) Program: This program invests in innovative technologies, including AI, to improve manufacturing capabilities for defense and industrial applications, specifically in 3D printing, predictive maintenance, and autonomous systems.

It also manages a national registered apprenticeship program in AI and advanced technologies. Georgia Resources for Manufacturers and Innovators The state of Georgia offers robust support for manufacturers and startups, including workforce training programs, economic development services, and AI adoption initiatives.
These resources are designed to strengthen Georgia’s leadership in advanced manufacturing. The Georgia Department of Economic Development: This department’s Technology and Innovation Division includes the Center of Innovation, which provides crucial connections to help Georgia businesses develop new products and services.
