The initiative runs in partnership with the Ministry of Culture , the Quality of Life Program and Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) . Applications for the new grant are open now and will close on 29 September 2026. SO WHAT?
- Saudi Arabia has designated 2026 as the Year of AI, and this grant track is one of the more targeted attempts to push that agenda into one of the Kingdom’s up and coming sectors. The grant announcement follows an agreement signed last month between the Ministry of Culture , the CDF and SDAIA to explore joint AI programmes for the cultural sector.
Culture and heritage work often runs on small budgets and manual processes, so a direct cash incentive may encourage smaller cultural businesses to prioritise AI adoption. Saudi Arabia’s Cultural Development Fund (CDF) has announced AI Incentives for Cultural Projects , a grant track offering up to SAR500,000 ($133k) to encourage micro ventures and SMEs to adopt or develop AI technologies.
The grant is launched in partnership with the Ministry of Culture , the Quality of Life Program and Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) . The AI Incentives track is the first under CDF’s broader Nama Incentives programme, which supports cultural projects in priority areas aligned with national objectives.
Eligible micro, small and medium-sized cultural businesses can receive financial incentives of up to SAR500,000 ($133k) to develop or adopt AI-powered solutions. The track covers six priority areas: creativity and production, heritage and asset preservation, content and knowledge development, cultural experiences and engagement, cultural project management and operations, and governance and intellectual property.
The initiative builds on a trilateral agreement between the Ministry of Culture, CDF and SDAIA aimed at accelerating technology adoption, improving operational efficiency and strengthening the cultural sector’s competitiveness. CDF expects that integrating AI into cultural projects could unlock new products, services and experiences while creating investment and entrepreneurship opportunities in line with Saudi Vision 2030.
Applications are open via CDF’s website from 10 August until 29 September 2026, with eligibility criteria and guidelines published for organisations developing AI-powered cultural products, services or technology solutions.
CDF positions itself as the Center of Excellence and financial enabler for Saudi Arabia’s cultural sector, tying the initiative to the objectives of the National Culture Strategy and Vision 2030’s creative economy goals. ZOOM OUT - Last month the Ministry of Culture, CDF and SDAIA signed a trilateral MoU, which set out to explore joint AI programmes.
The partnership aims to target all 16 of Saudi Arabia's officially recognised cultural sectors, from heritage and museums to fashion and culinary arts. A Cultural Management Platform study found AI is already touching every one of those sectors, but there is still foundational work to do across policy groundwork, on intellectual property, data and ethics.
AI incentives are a small addition to its portfolio, but they show that CDF expects AI to contribute to the next phase of the sector’s growth.
