B Swarms are becoming a threat to warfighters across all operating domains due to their non-traditional, unpredictable tactics and the advantage of mass and decentralization. Counter-swarm tactics are an emerging field, and missile defense systems must evolve to respond to potential threats from swarms operating in the hypersonic regime.
Developing algorithms, methods, and concepts to guide assets in swarm-on-swarm engagements is essential to defend targets from incoming hypersonic swarm threats. By utilizing artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) algorithms, Infinity Labs, in partnership with University of Cincinnati, propose a method that will enable large-scale swarm and counter-swarm defensive strategies.
Phase I efforts include a feasibility study with MS&A of proposed algorithms that combine target-attacker-defender DGT optimal control strategies with nature-inspired optimization and deep learning classification for weapon target assignments (WTA). The Department's FY26 SBIR/STTR Release 3 opened June 24 with roughly 37 topics across DARPA, the Navy, the Air Force, and the defense components, all closing July 22. The compressed four-week window is unforgiving, but the bigger mistake founders make is treating every component the same. Here is how to read the release, the eligibility rules that disqualify good companies, and why the component you target matters more than the topic you pick.
Read articleDoW's 2026 SBIR Broad Agency Announcement now operates on a monthly pre-release / quarterly close cadence. The 42 topics closing June 24 are the first test of whether the new rhythm produces the steady-state deal flow defense innovators have been asking for since 2022.
Read articleThe memorandum of agreement was signed August 4 and 5, disclosed by House appropriators on September 3, and runs through 2036. It names no dollar figure. Here is what is actually established, what is still speculation, and what researchers holding or planning NIAID biodefense awards should do before September 30.
