This Call for Artist Submissions is for Santa Barbara, Ventura and Los Angeles County artists who would like to be considered for participation in an AI artist accelerator working group.

The Brill Family Foundation and AI Artists Alliance are seeking talented, forward-thinking artists who are actively working with AI as a creative medium and are excited to collaborate within a cohort, exploring ecological themes while continuing to develop their own distinct artistic voice. We’ve been searching for over a year for very special artists, and we still have room for a few more.

Ideal participants are technically skilled beyond beginner or purely prompt-based generative tools, demonstrating a deeper understanding of AI workflows, creative coding, or experimental processes. Applicants should be able to thrive in a group environment and clearly articulate their ideas and contributions while listening, responding to, and building upon the perspectives of others.

A genuine desire to collaborate is essential, and prior experience working successfully in teams is preferred. We are especially interested in artists who want to innovate new kinds of art experiences through AI. This working group offers artists freedom within a shared theme that explores both positive and negative consequences of AI and its impacts on the environment, society, and human creativity.

Participants will combine independent practice with collaborative engagement over an initial six-month period, with potential for additional grants to be extended over a longer term, and will join an established cohort formed through a previous call to artists, building on an existing collaborative foundation and working within the defined theme.

Artists are expected to actively contribute to the group process and to develop meaningful outputs both individually and collectively throughout the program. Designed as an accelerator rather than a traditional residency, the group emphasizes focused development, momentum, and public or tangible outcomes that advance the shared theme and strengthen its visibility and impact.

Participants must be willing to adopt the thematic direction and work collaboratively toward common goals, with contractual expectations clarified in advance. A limited number of artists will be interviewed, and selected participants may receive a grant of up to $5,000; however, this is not solely a funding opportunity.

Artists are applying to be part of an active working group, and grant support is conditional upon full and successful participation in the program. In addition to grant funding, artists will receive a larger degree of visibility and increased recognition for their work through extensive marketing initiatives. They will also receive technical support, and educational opportunities.

As a part of the application process, you will be asked to share examples of previous work and describe your creative process, including the tools you use, your workflow, and the inspirations that shape your practice and the work you are submitting.
