AJS Contingent Faculty and Independent Scholar Research Grants is sponsored by Association for Jewish Studies (AJS). The Association for Jewish Studies offers research grants to assist scholars who do not have any guaranteed institutional funding. These awards are meant to support current AJS members who hold a PhD.

The Association for Jewish Studies is pleased to again offer its Contingent Faculty and Independent Scholar Research Grants. The AJS will award $1,000 research grants.

Eligible applicants must be current AJS members (for the 2026 membership year) and hold a PhD. These awards are meant to assist scholars who do not have any guaranteed institutional funding. Research funds may be used to support travel to archives or libraries or to pay for childcare while you are conducting research.

These are examples and not an exhaustive list. The research associated with this grant must be completed by December 31, 2026. Recipients are required to submit a report upon the completion of their research.

Deadline to Apply: February 13, 2026 • Applicants must hold a PhD. • Applicants must be current members of the Association for Jewish Studies for 2026.
