While we are often less certain about the individual grants we make via our All Grants Fund, since they include less proven or more experimental opportunities, we believe that—in aggregate—these grants represent the highest-impact use of marginal funding. 100% of your donation goes to orgs that need it After transaction fees, 100% of donations to the fund are distributed to the recipient organizations.

GiveWell does not use any of these funds for our own operating support. Selected grants from the fund to complete World Health Organization pre-qualification for moxidectin Medicines Development for Global Health (MDGH), a pharmaceutical nonprofit, developed moxidectin to treat onchocerciasis (river blindness), which causes blindness and debilitating skin irritation.

WHO’s pre-qualification process evaluates drug quality, safety, and efficacy, and we understand that many countries are more likely to adopt a new drug if it is pre-qualified. We believe moxidectin may be more effective than the current treatment, so bringing it to market may provide a direct health benefit.

Clinton Health Access Initiative for a program to prevent tuberculosis among young children Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, India Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease that affects people’s lungs; young children are at particular risk of dying from it. This grant will support health workers to visit households where someone has TB, screen other household members, and offer preventive treatment for young children who screen negative.

By using a less-burdensome regimen and leveraging health worker infrastructure, the program will likely increase the number of children receiving treatment, thereby reducing illness and death. for a pilot of its CommCare Connect mobile health platform Not all people have easy access to needed health care commodities, such as vitamin A supplements or oral rehydration solution to treat diarrhea.

CommCare Connect aims to expand the use of these cost-effective resources by providing payments to community health workers to deliver them through door-to-door household visits in areas where usage rates are low. This pilot will help us determine whether the platform can be implemented as intended at scale.

for the rollout of malaria vaccines Multiple countries in Africa PATH will support the ministries of health in Nigeria, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Burkina Faso, Mozambique, and Uganda as they integrate the RTS,S and R21 malaria vaccines into their national immunization programs. PATH will coordinate with stakeholders, train healthcare workers, facilitate community outreach, and strengthen data systems.

We believe this grant will increase the number of children receiving malaria vaccines in the first years of the rollout, thereby reducing illness and death. for a randomized controlled trial of its tree program Planting trees for timber may raise incomes among poor households. One Acre Fund’s tree program encourages farmers to grow more trees by providing seedlings and training.

This grant will fund a research study to estimate the program's impact on farmers' income; the information we get may allow us to more confidently fund the program or instead fund something more cost-effective. Photo credit: One Acre Fund for its Deworm the World Initiative Through this program, Evidence Action provides schoolchildren with deworming treatment to kill illness-causing parasitic worm infections.

This grant will provide one additional year of support for deworming programs that GiveWell has previously funded. Reducing worm infections during childhood may significantly increase income later in life, though the evidence is uncertain. New Incentives, a GiveWell Top Charity, provides small cash incentives to caregivers to vaccinate their children and promotes the benefits of vaccination.
