Alternative Fuels Data Center: Alternative Fuel Vehicle (AFV) Research and Development Grants Alternative Fuel Vehicle (AFV) Research and Development Grants The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) provides grants of up to $200,000 for the research and development of commercial innovations related to electric vehicle (EV) chargers, EV batteries, and biodiesel, hydrogen and fuel cell vehicle technologies.
