The grant will support alternative research methods, such as the hiring of local researchers in Ukraine and Russia to conduct directed archival work, the digitization of archival materials, or other alternative methods that will grant students access to sources necessary to their dissertation research. This grant is available to students enrolled in a Ph. D.
program at Stanford University who are conducting dissertation research and who are not able to access necessary materials and sources due to travel restrictions to Russia and Ukraine. This grant is made possible by funds raised in celebration of the career of Norman Naimark, Professor of History.
