Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation (Goodes Prize) is a funding program from the Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation (ADDF) that supports academic centers and biotechnology companies worldwide advancing therapeutic and biomarker development for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.
Using a venture philanthropy model, ADDF makes investments rather than traditional grants, typically seeking a share of commercial returns from academic-funded research or purchasing convertible notes or equity in biotech companies.
Active focus areas include IND-enabling studies and early-stage clinical trials for novel and repurposed drugs, plasma, CSF, neuroimaging, and digital biomarker development, and clinical trials evaluating whether drug use alters dementia risk. Current open programs include a Neuroimaging and CSF Biomarker RFP and Peripheral Biomarkers RFP. Applications are reviewed throughout the year, with a 5:00 p.
m. ET deadline on posted dates.

OTHER FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES WITH OUR PARTNERS Accelerating Drug Discovery for FTD RFP ADDF-Harrington Scholar Program RFP Treat FTD Fund: Clinical trials for FTD NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS OUR FUNDING MODEL AND FOCUS AREAS NOTE: The ADDF's venture philanthropy model means we make investments, not grants, and use all returns from those investments to support our charitable mission.
Our terms are comparable with those of other venture investors. When we are working with academic institutions, in exchange for our investment we typically ask for a share of any commercial returns that may arise from the funded research. When working with biotechnology companies, we typically purchase Convertible Notes or equity, though we are also open to structuring royalty and milestone agreements with biotechs.
We have dedicated our funding to several key areas: IND-enabling studies and early-stage clinical trials for novel and repurposed drugs Development and validation of plasma, CSF, neuroimaging and digital biomarkers Clinical trials, comparative effectiveness research, and epidemiological studies that test whether the use or choice of drugs alters the risk for dementia or cognitive decline Applications are reviewed throughout the year.

The ADDF-Harrington Scholar Program identifies and accelerates promising drug discovery research for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, with explicit support for AI/ML-enabled approaches including generative AI for novel drug candidate identification, deep learning for target validation, AI-driven repurposing of approved drugs, and computational platforms for amyloid and tau pathology. Scholars receive a 2-year grant of $600K plus comprehensive drug development expertise from the Harrington Discovery Institute and ADDF's Drug Development Accelerator. Optional follow-on investment through ADDF's venture arm. Strong fit for academic investigators with promising preclinical leads, AI-enabled drug discovery platforms, or novel computational therapeutic approaches.
The Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation Drug Development RFP provides substantial funding of up to $5 million for IND-enabling studies and early-phase clinical trials targeting Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. The program operates as a venture philanthropy model, supporting novel drug development approaches including AI-driven computational drug discovery, target identification, and molecular modeling. Priority research areas include combination therapies, epigenetics, inflammation, mitochondrial function, neuroprotection, proteostasis, and aging-related mechanisms. The ADDF accepts proposals for Phase 0, Phase 1, and biomarker-based proof-of-concept studies, as well as pharmacology, toxicology, and manufacturing studies. The foundation funds novel, repurposed, and repositioned drugs, natural products, and devices. Both academic medical centers and biotechnology companies (including new AI-driven drug discovery startups) are eligible. The program uses a two-stage review process with letters of intent due September 14, 2026, followed by invited full proposals. As a mission-related investment, funding may include return-on-investment requirements based on scientific and business milestones, distinguishing it from traditional grants.
Seamless Early-Stage Clinical Drug Development (Phase 1 to 2a) for Novel therapeutic Agents for the Spectrum of Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and AD-related Dementias (ADRD) (UG3/UH3 Clinical Trial Required) is sponsored by National Institute on Aging (NIA), NIH. This NOFO invites applications for bundled independent protocols for phase 1 and phase 1b/phase 2a clinical trials to streamline early-stage evaluation of promising pharmacological interventions for AD and ADRD.
