4. Graduate Student Travel Grants 5. **Graduate Student Travel Grants** Meetings play a vital role in the development of early-career mathematicians.
Attending conferences allows graduate students to share and learn about current research and professional resources, connect with peers and mentors, and build lasting professional networks. AMS Graduate Student Travel Grants, made possible through the generosity of AMS Next Generation Fund donors, help reduce financial barriers so more students can take part in these important opportunities.
We accept applications for travel support to wo types of AMS meetings: AMS Spring and Fall 2026 Sectional Meetings and Joint Mathematics Meetings (JMM). Additionally, proceeds from the sale of the exclusive JMM 2026 T-shirt contributed to supporting graduate student travel.
## AMS Spring and Fall 2026 Sectional Meetings Sectional meetings provide opportunities to present research, connect with the mathematical community, and explore professional pathways. AMS Sectional Travel Grants of up to $400 help make participation possible for graduate students with limited funding. * **Fall 2026 Sectional Meeting Travel Grants:**opened on May 14, 2026 and will close July 31,2026.
* **Spring 2027 Sectional Meeting Travel Grants:**will open on January 22, 2027 and close February 8, 2027. * All applications are reviewed together. Eligibility and Award Notes: * Grants of up to $400 support attendance at any in-person Spring or Fall 2026 AMS sectional meeting.
* Applicants must be full-time doctoral students at U.S.-based institutions. * Awardees are responsible for making their own travel arrangements. * Each individual may receive an AMS Sectional Meeting Travel Grant only once.
## Joint Mathematics Meetings (JMM) The JMM Graduate Student Travel Grant program supports graduate students attending the largest annual gathering of mathematicians. These grants reduce financial barriers and help students in their final two years of graduate study fully participate in the JMM experience.
* Applications for the 2027 JMM Graduate Student Travel Grant program will open on MathPrograms in September 2026 and close in mid-October. * All applications are reviewed together. Eligibility and Award Notes: * Applicants must be doctoral students in mathematics in their final two years of study, or have earned the PhD between August 1, 2026, and December 31, 2026.
* Applicants must have both a home and institutional address located outside of a50-mile radius from the JMM location. * Awardees are responsible for making their own travel arrangements. * Each individual may receive a JMM Travel Grant only once.
