and Katherine B. Andersen Foundation was established in 1959 on the core value that charitable grant making advances and builds thriving communities. With the goal of being a guiding hand and supporter of community health and stability, the founders believed in the importance of helping the underserved and under-resourced and in being a quiet leader in building healthy strong communities.
We are pleased to welcome Sean O’Connor to the Fred C. and Katherine B. Andersen Foundation as our new Director of Finance.
In this role, Sean will focus on strengthening our financial stewardship, supporting long-term sustainability, and helping ensure our work continues to deliver meaningful and measurable community impact. Sean is a mission-driven finance leader with more than 20 years of experience spanning nonprofit and corporate finance, financial strategy, and investment management.
Most recently, he served as Director of Finance at Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities, where he oversaw financial planning, reporting, compliance, and audit readiness. Prior to that, he led finance at PCs for People during a period of significant organizational growth.
Earlier in his career, Sean held several senior roles at U.S. Bancorp, including Senior Vice President and Director of Investor Relations, as well as positions focused on valuation, financial analysis, and finance management. He holds an MBA in Finance from the University of St. Thomas and a BA in Business Administration from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.
Sean brings both strategic insight and a hands-on approach to his work and is excited to help strengthen and build out the Foundation’s finance functions. A longtime resident of Roseville, MN, he has spent many days exploring and camping in the St. Croix Valley with his family.
Outside of work, he enjoys spending time on the pickleball court and visiting America’s National Parks. Please join us in welcoming Sean to the Fred C. and Katherine B.

583. 8485 The Mission of the Foundation is to provide resources to nonprofit organizations that build thriving communities and improve the quality of life primarily in the St. Croix Valley geographic region of Minnesota and Wisconsin.
The Foundation has established a focused set of priorities and welcomes requests for general operations, programs, or projects. Capital requests may be considered on a more limited basis.
Medical research, mental/chemical health, hospitals Affordable housing for families and seniors Youth education initiatives Basic needs, food insecurity, employment Local initiatives, community projects The Foundation primarily serves and prioritizes funding to organizations that are working and delivering services in the geographic region of the St. Croix Valley of Minnesota and Wisconsin.
However, consideration may be given to organizations outside of the geographic footprint, if they are delivering services that address a funding priority. Organizations seeking funding must be 501c(3) public nonprofit organizations. Endowment funding does not fall within the guidelines of the Foundation.
The Foundation also does not provide funding to individuals, political campaigns, sponsorships, or lobbying activities.

The Homeless Youth Program is a grant from the Illinois Department of Human Services that funds services for homeless and at-risk youth across Illinois.
