It also supports victims of domestic abuse by offering grants to shelters that can or want to accept animals, allowing individuals to seek refuge with their pets.

Additionally, the AKC Humane Fund℠ offers scholarships to students pursuing veterinary education, ensuring the future of compassionate animal care. By fostering a community of care and compassion, the Fund works tirelessly to improve the lives of dogs and their owners. Its commitment extends to the preservation of the bond between humans and animals, making it a leading advocate for canine welfare and the broader pet-loving community.

Too often, fear for the safety of a beloved pet is enough to keep a victim of domestic violence suffering in a dangerous situation at home. AKC Humane Fund grants help these pet owners find peace and safety and transform their lives. Our funding for non-profit rescue organizations covers the cost of veterinary care and essential supplies to help dogs in need find their forever homes.

The AKC Humane Fund℠ awards thousands of dollars in scholarships every year to students who are pursuing education focusing on the care of pets and the advancement of responsible pet ownership. Awards for Canine Excellence The Awards for Canine Excellence celebrate the ways in which dogs contribute to our lives.

One award is given every year in each of these categories: Law Enforcement, Search and Rescue, Therapy, Service, and Exemplary Companion Dog. The American Kennel Club maintains one of the world’s largest libraries devoted to dogs. Open to the public the Library serves as a reference collection and archive on dogs and what they mean to mankind.

“We know that often victims do not leave their situations because they fear leaving their pets behind in danger… As a solution to this, the Shelter has an onsite kennel for residents staying in our 60-bed emergency shelter… The Shelter is very thankful for support provided by the AKC Humane Fund℠.

Funds provided by the AKC Humane Fund℠ assist in allowing the Shelter to continue to provide kennel services for victims seeking an end to the violence in their lives. ” -The Center for Abused Women and Children “Benji and his mom, both in pain, came to The Shade Tree in need of some help and some tender loving care.

Both were the victims of violence in their home just hours prior to their arrival, and the worst instance came to light: Mom was 5 weeks pregnant. She was immediately taken to the hospital, but it was too late: the baby did not make it. Benji selflessly stepped in and took the responsibility of comforting his hurting mom, knowing that he’s the only “baby” she has left.

Due to Benji’s undying love, support, and loyalty, his Mom reached self-sufficiency in two short months and now has the start to a beautiful new pain free life. ” “Meg's House is extremely happy that thanks to the AKC Humane Fund℠ we have an onsite kennel for providing a safe haven for pets.
