Appalachian Regional Energy Hub Initiative - Appalachian Regional Commission Appalachian Regional Energy Hub Initiative The Appalachian Regional Energy Hub Initiative is a funding opportunity to support the development and implementation of a regional energy hub.
Launched in March of 2024 , the initiative makes available up to $5 million for eligible applicants to: Conduct research regarding the economic impact of an ethane energy storage hub; or Support the implementation of an energy hub for natural gas and natural gas liquids, including hydrogen produced from natural gas feedstocks. ARC Awards Nearly $4. 7 Million to Three Energy Projects In December 2024, ARC awarded nearly $4.
7 million to three projects that will work to implement a hydrogen energy hub from natural gas feedstocks , as well as provide job training for Appalachians to work in the energy industry. Appalachia is well positioned to strengthen regional economies by investing in its energy resilience. The region has the opportunity to leverage its ample access to low-cost natural gas to produce clean hydrogen.
