Appliance Upgrade Program Save Money on Efficient Heat Pump Clothes Dryers and Electrical Upgrades The Appliance Upgrade Program helps New Yorkers save money on the purchase of an ENERGY STAR® certified heat pump clothes dryers from participating retailers.
Heat pump dryers offer superior efficiency in a self-contained system that doesn’t require ventilation – allowing them to be installed in various locations of a home or apartment. Eligible residents may also access rebates to complete any necessary electrical upgrades, including wiring and panel upgrades, to install an ENERGY STAR certified heat pump clothes dryer in their home.
These electrical upgrades must be performed by a participating contractor to receive rebates. However, residents replacing an electric-resistance dryer with a heat pump clothes dryer will likely be able to install it themselves. Typically, replacements of gas dryers will need to be done by a participating contractor.
The maximum rebates a resident may qualify for depends on their income, the cost of the heat pump clothes dryer, and any necessary electrical upgrades. It’s easiest and fastest to gather the required documents you’ll need for your application before getting started. Specifically, renters will need to have landlords complete the Building Owner Attestation granting their approval prior to beginning the application. Create a profile on the MyEnergy Portal and complete an Appliance Upgrade Program application.
Look out for an email from [email protected] with your two coupon codes to be used at your selected participating retailer [PDF] , and if needed, with your participating contractor [PDF] . Browse the ENERGY STAR Qualified Product List [PDF] to select your ENERGY STAR certified heat pump clothes dryer model and confirm that it is available at your selected participating retailer.
At checkout, present your heat pump clothes dryer coupon to your participating retailer to redeem the coupon and receive your rebate. Create a MyEnergy Profile Residents who require electrical upgrades to install their heat pump clothes dryer must work with a participating contractor.
Additionally, in certain municipalities, residents replacing a gas clothes dryer must work with a participating contractor to cap the gas line before installing a heat pump clothes dryer. Setting up a MyEnergy profile and applying online is the fastest way to apply for your rebates.
Once you set up your profile you can save your in-progress application, submit your application and supporting documents for review, and check on your application status. The application portal includes on-screen instructions on how to apply. Become a Participating Contractor Interested electricians and contractors can get qualified to serve customers through the Appliance Upgrade Program. Income-eligible New Yorkers can access whole-house energy upgrades through EmPower+ Program . Note that residents can only participate in the Appliance Upgrade Program or the EmPower+ Program at a time.
Once a project is completed through the Appliance Upgrade Program, for example, a customer would be able to apply for EmPower+ funding.
