Next Grant Deadline: August 31, 2026 at 11:59 pm EDT Grounding Zone Processes RFP The grounding zone is where glaciers meet the ocean and where sea-level futures are decided - we’re funding research into the processes that govern its behavior in West Antarctica. We’re seeking research that closes the gap between observation, lab experiment, and modeling of subglacial water flow, a poorly understood driver of Antarctic ice-sheet retreat.
Observational Technologies RFP We’re looking for novel instruments and sensing technologies that advance our ability to monitor glaciers and ice sheets, from subglacial sensors to ice-ocean interface platforms. Intervention Technologies Research RFP We’re seeking early-stage research into technologies that could slow or stabilize vulnerable glaciers, through water extraction, thermosyphon cooling, or other basal interventions.
Focused on fieldwork at accessible glacier sites to build baseline observational data, test equipment and models, and evaluate suitability as analogues for West Antarctic ice-sheet dynamics.
Arête Glacier Initiative invites proposals through our Arête Frontier Grants opportunity, designed to support bold, innovative ideas that advance our mission: understanding and mitigating the risks of catastrophic sea-level rise driven by ice-sheet instability. We welcome proposals across a broad range of disciplines, approaches, and methods. Applicants may request up to $100,000 to support work carried out over up to two years.
This opportunity is rolling, with decisions announced twice per year - fall and spring. A pre-application submission is required to help Arête assess your project’s alignment with our mission and identify proposals to invite for full submission. We encourage applicants to think creatively and independently - there are no predetermined topic areas or preferred methodologies.
