12 Solicitation Number: USDA-NIFA-SBIR-009962 Project Summary/Abstract - 1 page Problem - Small and mid-sized farmers don't have access to the resources to allow for effective operational analysis resulting in missed opportunities for cost savings and increased Objective - We will build an artificial intelligence (AI) assisted farm data collection and management tool that allows small and mid-sized farmers to easily collect relevant operational data and manages the process of storing and finding connections between said data to offer suggestions for operational improvements.
Description of the Effort - We will combine our team's deep experience helping small-to- midsize farmers improve profitability (both through our existing tech-enabled services as Good Agriculture and small-to-midsize farmers ourselves) with our technical expertise developing custom machine learning software and creating data science models to first evaluate existing technology and then build iterative data science tools (first a summary statistics tool then a correlations tool then a full digital twin).
Anticipated Results - Small and mid-sized farmers will be able to gain insight into their operations that would not have been cost effective to obtain otherwise. This will allow them to experiment and make changes in their business practices to introduce cost savings improve yields and reduce environmental impact.
This will make their businesses stronger and more resilient as well as improving the overall resiliency of the nation's food production. As many small and mid-sized farms are in rural areas this will also improve the availability of rural jobs and the resiliency of rural communities.
Commercial Applications - Our immediate target market is small and mid-sized farmers but this technology is potentially applicable to any agricultural operation. Based on our calculations small and mid-sized farmers are losing roughly $50 billion in agricultural productivity by not having access to accurate operational analysis.
