AI AgeTech Non-Dilutive R&D Funding for Startups + Academics The a2 Collective represents the Artificial Intelligence and Technology Collaboratories (AITC) for Aging Research program, which is dedicated to helping Americans live longer, healthier lives through the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies.
To date, the AITC program has funded 166 AI-driven AgeTech projects with more than $40M to improve care and health outcomes for older adults, including persons with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD).
Pilot awardees may receive access to study sites, datasets, and resources at each AITC, as well as mentorship from industry and university experts, major health systems, and venture capitalists, and are eligible to apply for $10K in AWS credits . Pilot awardees may also become more competitive for SBIR/STTR grant funding . The AITC program is funded by the National Institute on Aging (NIA), part of the National Institutes of Health.

15, 2025, the a2 Collective is accepting applications for our fifth annual a2 Pilot Awards, a national pilot project competition seeking to provide non-dilutive R&D grant funding to promising technology demonstration projects with a clear path to commercialization, translational milestones, or technology transfer at the intersection of AI, healthy aging, or AD/ADRD.
Private companies, research organizations, tech startups , and traditional NIH/NIA investigators are encouraged to apply. The a2 Collective anticipates sharing updates regarding the next a2 Pilot Awards competition in mid- to late 2026, contingent upon renewal of the National Institute on Aging (NIA) AITC program. By 2034, 77 million Americans will be 65 or older. They will make up the largest age demographic in the United States, outnumbering Americans under 18 for the first time ever. The application of AI technologies will dramatically improve the health and quality of life of our nation’s aging population as well as drive innovation to our healthcare systems.
The a2 Collective sits at the intersection of this once-in-a-generation opportunity. The a2 Collective comprises three AITC Collaboratories centered at Johns Hopkins University (JH AITC), the University of Massachusetts Amherst (MassAITC), and the University of Pennsylvania (PennAITech) and the a2 Collective Coordinating Center managed by Rose Li and Associates, Inc. (RLA) .
