2025-2026 General Assembly AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to establishing an artificial intelligence literacy digital equity competitive grant program This bill establishes the Artificial Intelligence Literacy Act, which creates a competitive grant program to support artificial intelligence (AI) literacy across various educational institutions and community organizations in New York.
The program aims to address the growing importance of AI technology by providing funding to public schools, community colleges, higher education institutions, and community organizations to develop AI literacy initiatives.
Grant recipients can use funds for activities such as teacher training, developing AI learning labs, creating virtual learning platforms, designing educational materials, supporting partnerships with the private sector, and providing foundational AI literacy instruction tailored to different learning levels.
The bill recognizes that AI is a transformative technology and that many communities, particularly minority and rural areas, lack access to AI education. The grant program will prioritize applicants demonstrating high need and strong proposals, with a specific allocation of funds across different types of educational institutions.
