Artist Grant (Alta Community Enrichment)

Artist Grant (Alta Community Enrichment) is sponsored by Alta Community Enrichment (ACE). The ACE Artist Grant supports artistic endeavors of local community members in Little Cottonwood Canyon. This grant awards $1,500 for artistic projects in genres such as painting, printmaking, drawing, sculpture, crafts, folk & traditional art, public art, and dance.

Artist In Residence Recipients Maker's Meet-up Newsletter ACE provides three annual grants, each awarding $1,500 to individuals who reside in, work in, or engage in activities within Little Cottonwood Canyon. Currently, we offer the Artist Grant, WEXL Entrepreneurial Grant, and Wellbeing Grant. In 2020, ACE introduced the “Be Kind to Your Mind Grant,” focused on mental health initiatives.

The 2022 grant specifically emphasized Men’s Mental Health in memory of Sam Nolte. Additionally, our previous grants include the Young Guns Grant and the WEXL Education Grant. The ACE Artist Grant was the first ACE Grant, created in 2007 to support the artistic endeavors of local community members.

One grantee will be awarded $1,500. Total grant funds awarded each year will be $1,500. Must be a project in these genres: Painting, Printmaking, Drawing, Works on Paper, Sculpture, Crafts, Folk & Traditional Art, Public Art, Dance.

Does not include projects in photography, film, or video. Must be for an artistic project. This needs to be a project you are planning or working on, and not for general supplies needed for art.

Business endeavors - please submit to the WEXL Entrepreneurial Grant. Must be projects that are already in progress or not yet begun. Not available for projects that are already completed.

Applicants must include a detailed description of how funds will be used. Recipients are expected to use funds as described. Projects must be approved by all applicable entities or agencies.

Applicant must be a community member, someone who lives, works, or plays in Little Cottonwood Canyon. Past recipients are not eligible for grant monies from the grant they received. They may apply for other ACE grants.

Not available to Alta Community Enrichment employees or Alta Community Enrichment Board Members. Project, evaluation form, and accounting must be completed by May 1 of the following year. Applicants must provide examples of their work.

Deadline for applications is March 1 at 9 AM MT. All applicants will be notified of the decision by April 1. The Grant Committees make the final decision in selecting grant recipients.

WEXL Entrepreneurial Grant In memory of William (Bill) Edward Xavier Lennon. The object of this grant is to encourage those who represent Bill’s legacy of alternative and creative thinking. The grant will provide one community member in need of assistance to pursue an endeavor that will (a) support them as an entrepreneur and (b) contribute to the Little Cottonwood Canyon community.

ACE and the Alta Ski Patrol partnered to offer the WEXL Grant. Bill helped establish ACE in 1995, was a stalwart member of the Alta Ski Patrol for over 25 years, and served as a gadfly on the Alta Town Council. He was a quintessential entrepreneur, unafraid to start an offbeat enterprise.

His ventures included “The Great White Hunter” (ski finder service), “Beater Cords” (cords attached to your skis to prevent loss in deep powder), the power plant in lower Little Cottonwood, and a hand-washing station for firefighters. He was fun-loving and ruthlessly honest, thoughtful and obstinate, and at times deeply profound. He shared mind-bending ideas that would knock around in a person’s head for years!

He was good with his hands (he and Ellza built a house in Alta) and generous with his heart and time. The members of the ACE Grant Committees want this grant to inspire others with Bill’s wild spirit and wide view. One grantee will be awarded $1,500.

We define wellbeing as the state of being happy and healthy, which includes good mental health, life satisfaction, and a sense of meaning or purpose. This grant will fund projects focused on: Emotional & Mental Wellbeing and Physical Wellbeing.

We are looking for applications that stand out and are unique. Your efforts must benefit the others. One grantee will be awarded $1,500.
