Artists and Creatives Grants

Artists and Creatives Grants is sponsored by Various Funders (as aggregated by a community engagement site). Provides financial support to independent creatives (including collectives and collaborators) living or working in California or the US, for creative work relating to or encouraging community engagement, especially from historically excluded artists.

How to Apply — community engagement Our Artists and Creatives Grant provides financial support to those making or presenting creative work relating to or encouraging community engagement. Grant guidelines and qualifications Please carefully consider these guidelines before applying to ensure your project is eligible: Our fall grants (deadline September) are open to artists living or working in California.

Our spring grants (deadline March) are open to artists living or working anywhere in the US. This grant funds community engaged art. We provide grants to independent creatives (including collectives and collaborators) needing support for producing and/or presenting artistic projects relating to or engaging a community.

Building collaborative connections. The grant is intended to fund the execution of community-engaged projects. Please review our mission statement to understand how we define community engagement.

This is a project-based grant. Our grant funds artistically-excellent community engaged projects that present new and imaginative possibilities. We prioritize funding the creation of new artworks and are not likely to fund art classes, take-home art kits, or exhibitions of studio artwork in preexisting galleries unless the proposal centers a clear and purposeful collaboration with a community.

Grants are usually limited to $500 - 2,500 , but in rare circumstances we may provide funding up to $5,000. We suggest that most artists apply for funding under $2,500 unless advised otherwise. This grant supports individual artists and/or artist collectives.

The following are not supported by this grant: arts festivals; nonprofit and for-profit organizations; student projects (undergraduate or graduate); residencies; research symposia; studio rent; conferences; theaters; festivals; activity affiliated with religious organizations of any kind. Successful grantees are eligible to reapply every two years.

Successful applicants to this grant should wait at least two years before reapplying for funding. This grant encourages applications from artists who have historically been underrepresented. Although this grant is open to all artists, we especially encourage applications from those who have been historically underrepresented in the arts.

This includes, but is not limited to, artists who are Black, Indigenous, People of Color, Queer, Trans, Deaf, Disabled, Immigrant or Refugee, or Self-Taught. Applications that do not adhere to the above guidelines will not be reviewed. If you have not heard from us 6 weeks after the deadline, your application was not approved for funding.
