The program also holds biennial retreats for committed female writers, providing writing workshops and practical publishing help. Acceptable genres: poetry, playwriting, creative nonfiction, and fiction. Lighthouse & Clarissa Dalloway Book Prize Awards $1,000 annually to one woman's unpublished poetry collection and one woman's "everything but poetry" manuscript.

Winners each receive $1000 and publication by Red Hen Press, as well as promotional efforts and coverage of some related travel expenses. Four $1,000 prizes, awarded twice yearly to an outstanding unpublished work of poetry, nonfiction, 'sudden' or 'flash' fiction, and short fiction.

Deadlines: End of January and July Shakespeare's Sister Fellowship Awards $10,000 to a woman playwright to fund and facilitate the completion of a new dramatic work. The award includes AROHO Retreat attendance as the Shakespeare's Sister Fellow, a Hedgebrook Residency, and a project residency at the Lark Play Development Center.

Academy of American Poets, Inc. * These opportunities are awards, not grants, and do not carry typical submission deadlines. Under this program, an annual fellowship of $25,000 is awarded to an American poet for distinguished poetic achievement. Harold Morton Landon Translation Award This $1,000 award recognizes a published translation of poetry from any language into English.

A noted translator chooses the winning translation. Books must be submitted in the same year in which they are published. This award is given to support a poet's second book.

The winning poet is awarded a cash prize of $5,000, as well as Academy distribution of their book. Only manuscripts already under contract with publishers will be considered. Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize This $25,000 award recognizes the most outstanding book of poetry published in the U.S. in the previous year.

Raiziss/de Palchi Translation Award This award recognizes outstanding translations into English of modern Italian poetry through a $5,000 book prize, a $20,000 fellowship, and a residency at the American Academy in Rome. This award is given in even-numbered years. Self-published books are not accepted.

A stipend of $100,000 is given to an individual who has shown outstanding and proven mastery of the art of poetry. This award provides first-book publication, $5,000, and a residency at the Vermont Studio Center to an American poet who has not yet published a book of poetry. The winning manuscript, chosen by an eminent poet, is published by Louisiana State University Press.

The Rose Post Creative Nonfiction Competition The Rose Post Creative Nonfiction Competition encourages the creation of lasting nonfiction work that is outside the realm of conventional journalism, with relevance to North Carolinians. Subjects may include traditional categories such as reviews, travel articles, profiles or interviews, place/history pieces, or culture criticism.

Training experiences are designed to introduce the intern to a range of issues and activities, including planning and implementing public programs, organizing original field research in support of folklife projects, grantsmanship, financial planning and administration, publicity and promotion of public programs, advising local organizations and arts agencies on folklife projects, and fostering interagency relationships at the local, regional, and state levels.

The intern receives a $5,000 stipend for the three-month period. Interns are responsible for their own living arrangements during the program. Drama Therapy Research Grant http://www.
