The Brightwork Foundation offers two grant opportunities to NC based visual artists. At this time, one artist will be awarded a grant in each category. Brightwork Grants are now open to applicants living full-time in any NC county.

2026 Liu Shiming Artist Grants The Liu Shiming Art Foundation offers project-based grants to support artists pursuing new creative work. Funded projects are selected through an application and review process, with successful applicants notified directly by the foundation. Grant funds are released once the proposed project has been completed, encouraging accountable and completed creative output.

The grant program is designed to give practicing artists direct financial support for developing new bodies of work, independent of exhibition or gallery representation, making it a flexible funding source for artists at various career stages. Grants will be disbursed in two payments, with $3,000 by January 15, 2027 and the remaining $2,000 upon completion of the proposed project.

2026/27 MCAD-Jerome Foundation Fellowships for Early Career Artists The artists considered for these fellowships may work in a variety of visual art media, including traditional and new media. The program is aimed at visual artists who can present their work in a gallery context.

Eligible applicants must be in the early stages of their careers and have not yet attained professional acknowledgment commensurate with the quality of their work. An independent jury of three arts professionals awards four grants of $10,000 each to early-career Minnesota artists. Fellowships may be used to purchase materials, cover the production costs of new artwork, and supplement living or travel costs.

Black Artists Grant (BAG) The Black Artists Grant (BAG) is a no-strings-attached financial support initiative by Creative Debuts aimed at assisting Black artists in the UK. Recognizing the systemic under-support of Black artists within the art world, this grant provides recipients with £500 to use as they see fit, whether for artistic development or personal needs.

Each grant is given as one-time assistance for a specific emergency, examples of which are fire, flood, or emergency medical need. Created in the long hot summer days of 2009 in Boston, the Foundation distributes $1,000 grants, no strings attached, to projects and their creators.
