ASH Award for Research Careers in Hematology (ARCH) is sponsored by American Society of Hematology (ASH) Foundation. ARCH is an independent award designed to make research in hematology more accessible to independent investigators. It supports basic, clinical, and translational hematology investigators.

ARCH is now an independent award designed to make research in hematology more accessible to independent investigators. The award provides $150,000 in funding, which may be used over a period of 1, 2, or 3 years depending on the recipient’s preference. It is available to researchers who are no longer eligible for the ASH AIMFD and ASH Scholar Awards who hold a PharmD, a PhD, an MD/DO, or an MD/DO—PhD.

See Additional Benefit Information Applicants must submit proposals for research in hematology, which may fall into the following categories: Basic research, translational research, patient-oriented research, and/or outcomes-based research.

See Programmatic Priorities Applicants must be a U.S. or Canadian citizen or hold a visa or permanent resident status in the US, Mexico, or Canada with plans to conduct research within the US, Mexico, or Canada.

Applicants must serve as the Principal Investigator (PI) on the project, have completed residency or their terminal degree more than 13 years ago, hold a position at an academic institution or an equivalent position at a non-profit research organization, and have $500,000 or less in other resources available.

See Additional Information on Required Materials The review of the award applications is based on the scientific merit and quality of the applicant. However, in fairness to programmatic balance, no more than two awards will be granted per medical school. Individuals selected to receive this award will be notified in the year of application, with the award commencing upon notification.

At the time of the award all recipients are required to reaffirm that their ‘other resources’ remain below $500,000.
