Assistive Technology Grant is sponsored by The Arc of Snohomish County. The Arc of Snohomish County's Assistive Technology Grant, in collaboration with The Wockner Foundation, aims to provide communication/speech output devices to individuals with developmental disabilities who lack other means to purchase these devices.

ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY GRANT 2019_2020 APPLICATION > This grant was made possible with the support of: The Wockner Foundation The Arc of Snohomish County and The Wockner Foundation have collaborated to distribute funds to support communication for qualified individuals with developmental disabilities.

The purpose of the individual grant funding is to provide communication/speech output devices to individuals that do not have other means by which to purchase these devices. Communication is such a huge human necessity, which is why we are focused on the therapeutic, educational and social need in the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities in order to positively impact their ability to have an effective communication tool.

Consistency between care providers, families and school personnel is necessary in order for any assistive technology system to be successful, which is why we require the recommendations of a speech therapist, medical professional, or educator familiar with the applicant, so that we can support them in a manner that increases their chances of success throughout their community.

This grant program focuses on allowing the applicant to have a consistent way to communicate in all settings of their lives not just in limited settings. Ipads, tablets, and communication apps are often used as communication devices because they are easy to transport, easily available, and are a familiar devise that are easily used in most community settings.

INDIVIDUAL GRANT GUIDELINES: The Arc of Snohomish County supports grants which assist individuals with developmental disabilities in Snohomish County. The Assistive Technology Grant’s focus is to assist individuals with developmental disabilities with the ability to communicate, provided through an assistive technological device.

The Arc of Snohomish County Assistive Technology Grant does not consider grant proposals for Assistive Technology covered by entitlement programs or within an individual’s financial means. The applicant must have an income within 300% of the 2019 Poverty Guidelines.

$37,470 $50,730 $63,990 $77,250 $90,510 $103,770 $117,030 $130,290 Family members or board members of the administrating organization are not eligible to apply for or receive grant funds. Requests for up to $700 may be made. Individuals are eligible to receive Assistive Technology grant funds every 3 years (must not have received funding from any other grant opportunity from the Arc of Snohomish County within the last 2 years).

Verification of a developmental disability diagnosis (using the Developmental Disability Administration Eligibility, https://www. dshs. wa.

gov/sites/default/files/FSA/forms/pdf/14-459. pdf ) Proof the Applicant is currently living in Snohomish County Individual has a financial need. Can be a copy of or SSI funding and Personal Tax Return and/or Family Tax Return if individual is living in the family home.

DISBURSEMENT REGULATIONS: 1) Preceding each disbursement, the applicant must submit a written request including: Purpose for using the funds Name and address of payee/vendor 2) The Arc of Snohomish County will use grant funds to pay the vendor directly. Reimbursement with a receipt will be provided after purchase only with prior special permission from the Arc of Snohomish County.

3) The primary purpose of the Assistive Technology Grant is to help individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities that include communication deficits. As manager of the Assistive Technology Grant, The Arc of Snohomish County maintains executive authority over all disbursements and reserves the right to deny any individual request on a discretionary basis. Completed applications can be turned in at any time.
