B-Fund Grant Program: Breaking Down Barriers to Screening and Diagnosis is sponsored by Brem Foundation. The B-Fund Grant Program partners with local breast imaging centers and non-profit medical providers to fund breast diagnostic tests and screenings for patients in need.

Access for Women in Need — Brem Foundation Wheels for Women: Transportation should never be a barrier to breast care. In 2019, Brem Foundation, in partnership with Lyft, launched Wheels for Women, a ride-sharing program exclusively dedicated to providing transportation to breast care for patients in need.

Wheels for Women offers free transportation to and from breast screening and diagnostic exams, ensuring that women have access to vital breast care. The program launched in May 2019, and just three short years later, Wheels for Women has passed its 2,500th ride to lifesaving care. Wheels currently collaborates with 15 medical provider partners throughout the DC Metro Area and Baltimore to identify and arrange rides for patients in need.

Brem is proud of this milestone, a true reason for celebration. However, the challenges to accessing breast care have only been exacerbated over the last few years by the COVID epidemic and other barriers, and the demand for rides accelerates every week. These lifesaving rides pave the road to early detection and, therefore, to more saved lives.

Help women in need get the breast care they deserve. A donation of $72 provides a woman in need with one free, round-trip ride to her breast care appointment. That ride maximizes her chance of detecting breast cancer early and improving her health outcomes.

Early Detection Tools Hub B-Fund Grant Program: Breaking Down Barriers to Screening and Diagnosis Most women can get screening mammograms for free. But when a woman has an abnormal screening mammogram or experiences worrisome symptoms, she needs diagnostic tests to know whether or not she has breast cancer. The tests are often cost-prohibitive and out of reach.

Brem Foundation partners with local breast imaging centers and non-profit medical providers to provide funding for breast diagnostic tests and screenings for patients in need. Brem Foundation asks that diagnostic tests covered by the B-Fund are performed within two weeks of a woman’s abnormal mammogram.

This lifesaving fund allows patients to get a diagnosis in days or weeks rather than months — and, if needed, to start a treatment plan that maximizes their chances of living a healthy life after breast cancer. The 2026-2027 B-Fund grant cycle is now closed for applications. The RFP for the 2027-2028 grant cycle will be posted in April 2027, with proposals due in mid-May 2027.

Luke’s University Health Network, Inova, University of Maryland - St. Joseph Medical Center, and Adventist HealthCare. The B-Fund has provided vital tests to more than 4,200 women and works to close barriers to care for many in our community.
