Battle Born Venture is Nevada's state venture capital program. It was created in 2013 to help our entrepreneurs stay local when it comes to fundraising. Since then, it has invested in high potential Nevadan startups, has co-invested with prestigious corporations and high profile venture capital firms, and has celebrated five exits.

First up, you should check whether we’re a fit for each other by looking at our mandate or using our "are we a fit?" quiz. About 80% of startups who submit info to us don’t fit our mandate, this is a great way of checking before you spend time on your app.

Battle Born Venture is funded through the State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI), and its mandate is determined by the US Treasury approved state SSBCI application.

Key mandate guidelines are: We invest in startups that have recurring revenue* Our investments are in startups with a Nevada business license and a Nevada business address We participate in deals from $200k to $20m in total size We invest up to half of a total round with the ultimate size dependent on the company’s stage Company has to be a C-corp or S-corp. We do NOT invest in LLCs.

We invest up to $1m in any given company over time, no more than $500k in the first round in which we participate We utilize equity and equity-like deal structures, such as convertible and SAFE notes We don’t lead rounds.

We co-invest with professional investors, like venture capital firms, corporate venture capital arms, and incorporated angel funds We are sector agnostic, though we cannot invest in gambling, alcohol, cannabis or firearm sectors. We also won’t invest in real estate, investment firms or lenders.

*with the exception of startups that have spun out of Nevada’s research universities and/or are affiliated with projects supported by the Knowledge Fund. In addition, deep technology companies that have active SBIR/STTR contracts may also be eligible.
