Bioenergy Technologies Office | Department of Energy Bioenergy Technologies Office The U.S. Department of Energy Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO) collaborates with industry, academia, and national laboratory partners to unlock new economic opportunities for rural and agricultural communities by advancing technology development and innovation across the entire biomass-to-bioenergy supply chain.

Bioenergy is an abundant resource that can contribute to a more secure and economically sound future. BETO collaborations are working on: Transforming domestic biomass and waste carbon resources into productive and affordable bioenergy and bioproducts; and Providing options for global energy competitiveness.

BETO selects research and development projects through open and competitive procurements called Notices of Funding Opportunity (NOFO's), previously known as Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOA's), and encourages collaborative partnerships among: Federal, state, and local governments 2023 Multi-Year Program Plan This Multi-Year Program Plan sets forth the mission, goals, and strategic approach of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO).

The new plan identifies BETO’s research, development, and demonstration (RD&D) strategies and crosscutting programmatic activities, and outlines why these undertakings are critical to meeting the energy challenges facing the nation. The MYPP is intended as an operational guide to help BETO manage and coordinate its activities, as well as a resource to communicate its strategy to stakeholders and the public.

Roadmap Implementation Framework An interagency team led by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) released the SAF Grand Challenge Roadmap Implementation Framework in November 2024.
