The Foundation is dedicated to producing impartial and informative data and policy analysis that serve as key resources for policymakers and stakeholders. Through educational programs and convenings the Foundation engages stakeholders and maintains visibility of the most pressing challenges facing the health care system.
The mission of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation is to ensure equitable access to health care for all those in the Commonwealth who are economically, racially, culturally, or socially marginalized. Through a focus on three major aspects of access, we envision a Massachusetts in which every person has comprehensive coverage, quality, affordable and equitable health care, and optimal health.
Coverage does not always equal care. We remain committed to supporting programs that help people with low income obtain, keep and use their insurance, and to conducting research and developing strategies to increase coverage to reach those most in need.
Structural Racism & Inequities in Health Lack of access to quality, affordable health care is created and compounded by structural racism and prevents people from achieving positive health outcomes. Our grantmaking and policy analysis agenda aim to understand and disrupt structural racism to eliminate inequities in health care access, quality, and outcomes.
Access to behavioral health is uneven and consumers often have difficulty getting the right combination of care when they need it. We explore methods for expanding access and eliminating barriers to integrating behavioral and physical health care.
