Bob Sammons Clinical TMS Research Fund | Foundation for the Advancement of Clinical TMS Your gift to FACTMS through the Bob Sammons Clinical TMS Research Fund is a beacon of hope and transformation, empowering the next wave of innovation in mental health: Bob Sammons Clinical TMS Research Fund: Named in honor of Clinical TMS pioneer, Dr. Bob Sammons, the grant facilitates innovative research opportunities and supports translational and/or clinical investigators of TMS.
The grant offers up to $25,000 a year for up to two years. Applications open in February of each year.
2024 Bob Sammons Clinical TMS Research Grant Recipient Xiaolong Peng, PhD; Medical University of South Carolina Abstract: Research mainly focuses on developing individualized computational brain imaging analysis methods that aim to understand the functional organization and dynamic brain states in psychiatric, and neurologic brain disorders.
My research interests also include applying these individualized imaging methods to improve brain stimulation treatment for brain diseases, such as generating personalized brain stimulation targets, quantifying individualized functional networks and brain state changes, and predicting treatment response to brain stimulation. Dr. Bob Sammons is a prominent figure in the field of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) therapy.
He co-founded TMS Solutions in 2014 with the aim of expanding the availability of TMS for treating depression. Dr. Sammons is highly involved in the Clinical TMS Society (CTMSS), where he has served in various capacities, including the Outreach, Legal, Business and Ethics Committees, and as the Chairman of the Annual Meeting in 2023.
He was also elected to the Executive Committee of CTMSS and has been recognized with the society’s first-ever Legacy Award for his contributions to the field. As a veteran and a psychiatrist, Dr. Sammons has a particular interest in the potential of TMS to treat conditions such as PTSD, especially within the veteran community.
His role extends beyond clinical practice as he is also engaged in research and education, serving as an adjunct research professor at Colorado Mesa University to help develop and publish research using TMS technology ( Clinical TMS Society ) ( TMS Solutions ) ( TMS Solutions ) .
