Coastal Resilience Planning — California Climate Investments Coastal Resilience Planning Coastal Resilience Planning (State Operations) California Coastal Commission Provided funds to support local governments in completing or updating Local Coastal Programs (LCP) consistent with the California Coastal Act, with special emphasis on planning for sea level rise and climate change.
Grant-funded work had included the completion of sea level rise vulnerability assessments, technical studies, economic analyses, adaptation planning and reports, public outreach and engagement, and LCP policy development. The California Coastal Commission continues to receive a small amount of funding for State Operations and is not subject to project implementation. How did this program provide benefits to priority populations?
The Coastal Commission has a robust Environmental Justice policy and Social Equity component.
Through the Local Coastal Program Implementation Plan procedures, applicant selection requires local coastal plans to reach priority populations through the direct engagement of communities in the local planning process and through the eventual implementation of policies that provide benefits, such as through land use policies that build better public transportation.
