Canadian Science Policy Fellowship

Canadian Science Policy Fellowship is a competitive fellowship from Mitacs that integrates academic research and evidence-informed policymaking by embedding PhD holders into federal and provincial government host offices for 12-month immersive placements.

Fellows apply their skills, expertise, and research experience to the host office's policy challenges, contributing to better public policy for Canadians while receiving a salary ranging from $70,000 to $80,000 per year.

Past fellows have been placed at organizations such as Defence Research and Development Canada, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Emergency Management BC, and various provincial ministries addressing areas from biosafety to climate planning. Eligible applicants must hold a PhD, be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, and have expertise aligned with the host organization's policy priorities.

This competitive fellowship integrates academic research and evidence - informed policy -making by embedding PhD holders into federal and provincial government host offices. Fellows' skills, expertise and research experience is applied to the host offices' policy issues to create better public policy for Canadians.
