Consortium developmental awards are funded through a combination of Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) funds and philanthropic donations. Applications for each award are evaluated by a committee of Consortium faculty reviewers. Eligibility and application requirements are different for each award.

Cancer Consortium Pilot Award: 2026 Competition Closed Funds are available from the Fred Hutch/University of Washington/Seattle Children's Cancer Consortium (“The Consortium”) Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) and philanthropic funds to support cancer-related pilot projects.
This competition will provide awards of up to $100,000 direct costs (plus F&A/indrect costs as allowable) for one year of pilot project support. Cancer Consortium Pilot Awards Further Information Pilot funding eligibility is restricted to Consortium members and provisional members. There are no limitations on research topic, provided the problem under study is focused on cancer. Highly innovative concepts that have the potential to improve the lives of cancer patients are encouraged. Also, non-interventional cross-disciplinary research is an area of special interest in this competition.

org New Investigator Award: 2026 Competition Closed Funds are available from the Fred Hutch/University of Washington/Seattle Children's Cancer Consortium (“The Consortium”) Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) to provide developmental support to assistant and associate professors within the Cancer Consortium.
These funds are intended to help investigators generate preliminary data for future cancer-related grant applications and to accelerate their path toward independent research funding.
In addition to supporting research, the award is designed to foster career development by encouraging structured mentorship, participation in professional development activities that enhance research leadership skills, and integration into Consortium programs through collaborations with established investigators. This competition will provide two to three awards of up to $100,000 direct costs each (plus F&A/indirect costs).
New Investigator Award Further Information Applicants must be Consortium members or provisional members by the application deadline to be eligible. Assistant and Associate Professor-level faculty who have begun their appointment at one of the Consortium institution's (Fred Hutch, University of Washington, Seattle Children's) on or after July 2023. New faculty being recruited who will meet Consortium membership criteria at the time of the award start date (July 1, 2026). Consortium members in acting faculty positions are eligible to apply.
Faculty who meet the following criteria are NOT eligible for this award : Faculty who have received a CCSG-funded award of any kind OR a pilot award funded by Safeway within three years of the anticipated award start date (July 1, 2026). Investigators who are PIs on R01, P01, or P50 grants. Faculty with clinical trial affiliate membership are not eligible to apply but can be involved in the project as collaborators.
Faculty can only serve as PI on one new investigator award application per each annual New Investigator Award competition; however, they may be collaborators/co-investigators on more than one application. org Catchment Area Pilot Award: 2026 Competition Closed Funds are available from the Fred Hutch/University of Washington/Seattle Children's Cancer Consortium ("the Consortium") Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) to support cancer-related projects focused on: The Consortium's catchment area, which includes the entire state of Washington.
Pilot proposals in the catchment area of Washington must focus on primary research or secondary analysis. Populations in the state of Alaska . Pilot proposals in Alaska can include primary research and secondary analyses as well as projects that aim to set up research infrastructure for a future study and/or partnership with Alaska-based organizations, communities, investigators, or healthcare systems.
This competition will provide up to two awards at a maximum of $100,000 in direct costs (plus F&A/indirect costs), for one year. Priority will be given to funding at least one award that focuses on the cancer burden or cancer disparities within Alaska. Catchment Area Pilot Award Further Information Cancer Consortium members at all three Consortium institutions are eligible to apply.
Members who have received a Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG)-funded award of any kind within three years of the anticipated award start date (July 1, 2026) are not eligible to apply . Proposals should not be an extension of on-going, well-established, or recently funded studies.
Grants from more established investigators (e.g. Professors) will be competitive if they are for a pilot study that is needed to establish a new direction or research project. Collaborations between established investigators and junior colleagues will also be viewed favorably.

org Survivorship Pilot Award: 2026 Competition Opening in Fall The Survivorship Program invites proposals of high impact and innovation that will promote new research directions focused on cancer survivors. The goal of this award is to stimulate cross-institutional collaborations (Fred Hutch, University of Washington, Seattle Children’s) and/or new collaborations between Consortium investigators who have not previously worked together.
Survivorship Pilot Award Further Information At least one of the primary investigators should be a Cancer Consortium investigator ( https://www. cancerconsortium. org/en/membership.
html ). Priority will be given to applications that center on cross-institutional collaborations (investigators with primary appointments at different Consortium partners) and/or new collaborations (which can be among investigators based at the same Consortium partner but who have no previously co-funded work and no significant non-funded prior collaborations).
Priority will be given to investigators who have not previously received a Survivorship Pilot award. A member of the application team will be asked to pitch their proposal at the Late Effects & Survivorship Seminar on January 9, 2025 (1 to 3pm). Due date : December 31, 2024 Awardees will be announced no later than February 1, 2025.

edu Trainee Travel Award: 2026 Competition Closed The Fred Hutch/University of Washington/Seattle Children’s Cancer Consortium Trainee Travel Award is available to postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and medical fellows whose faculty advisor is a member of the Fred Hutch/University of Washington/Seattle Children’s Cancer Consortium. Faculty members can be found on the Cancer Consortium website .
The scholarship can be applied to registration, travel, and accommodation costs for any conference that will further their professional development. The award is for up to $1,500 or the cost of the conference, whichever is less. Expenses and travel for these awards MUST be completed and paid by May 29, 2026.
Trainee Travel Award Further Information Application Deadline : January 30, 2026 There are multiple possible awards and eligibility for the various awards based on your position/title and institution. In addition to providing information about your conference, you will be asked the following: Provide a statement outlining how taking this conference will help you achieve your current and/or future career goals.
If you are asking for more than $500, you will need a PI or faculty advisor to submit a letter of recommendation, identify another reference, or provide an explanation if you will not have a reference. Provide an abstract if you intend to present a talk or a poster at a conference. Due to the current travel restrictions, presenting commitments are required.
