Capacity Building (Coefficient Giving)

Capacity Building (Coefficient Giving) is sponsored by Coefficient Giving. This program funds projects that build society's capacity to navigate the risks of transformative AI.

Coefficient Giving is especially interested in funding projects that help new talent pivot into the field, support existing talent (e.g., via events that help build professional networks), and contribute to the discourse about transformative AI and its possible benefits and risks.

We find most of our giving opportunities through proactive research. However, the following funds have open applications: ### Living literature reviews Supports scholars to build and maintain “living literature reviews” — continuously updated collections of articles that synthesize research on a single topic. We’re especially interested in topics related to policymaking.

### Request for proposals: Humane Fish Slaughter Research/Prototypes Supports work to develop technologies and prototypes that materially improve the welfare of fish at capture and slaughter. Submissions are due by **July 1, 2026**. ### **Request for proposals: Alternative Protein R&D** Supports foundational, pre-competitive research to close the taste and price gap between alternative proteins and the animal products they replace.

Submissions are due by **August 10, 2026**. ### Career development and transition funding Supports people at any career stage who want to pursue careers focused on reducing global catastrophic risks. Many different activities are covered, including graduate study, professional training, and self-study.

### ****Funding for programs and events Supports programs and events related to effective altruism, global catastrophic risks, biosecurity, and other areas.

### **Request for proposals: Improving Global Health and Wellbeing in an Era of Transformative AI** Supports research, policy, implementation, and field-building to help ensure AI improves human health and wellbeing, with particular attention to risks for and benefits to the global poor. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until **August 21, 2026**.

### Request for proposals: Global Lead Poisoning Research Supports research, in partnership with the Center for Global Development, to understand and reduce the global burden of lead poisoning, including measurement and monitoring, source identification, used lead-acid battery recycling, and policy effectiveness. Submissions are due by **August 2, 2026**.

### Funding for capacity-building on risks from transformative AI Supports work focused on addressing risks from transformative AI through “capacity-building” (e.g. supporting professional networks, helping new people find work in the field, or contributing to public discourse).

Most of the time, we proactively reach out to potential grantees to shape funding proposals together, but we also read unsolicited proposals submitted through this form. We receive a large volume of inquiries and will only be able to respond to those that may be a good fit for our programmatic goals.

We welcome expressions of interest for projects addressing Strep A and rheumatic heart disease (RHD), especially opportunities in vaccine development. We receive a large volume of inquiries and will only be able to respond to those that may be a good fit for our programmatic goals. If your project isn’t a good fit for these programs but aligns with one of our funds, you can contact us to ask about funding.

However, we rarely fund unsolicited proposals, and we may not respond to all inquiries.
