CDBG Home Repair Program (Van Buren County) is sponsored by Van Buren County, MI. This program provides funding for critical, health, and safety home repairs for eligible homeowners in participating communities within Van Buren County.

Home Repair Funding for Eligible Homeowners - Van Buren County Monday to Friday: 8:30 AM - 5 PM Home Repair Funding for Eligible Homeowners Throughout Van Buren County, assistance is available for major, important home repairs for eligible homeowners. In collaboration with our communities, the County has secured additional funding for the program, covering those communities not already covered.

The CDBG Home Repair Program has funding available to help eligible homeowners pay for select home repairs. Homeowners who submit a complete application can qualify to receive funding for repairs that keep a home safe, warm, and sound. Homeowners looking to participate must meet requirements and apply.

Incomplete applications cannot be funded. Our partner, Market One, can answer questions and assist with applying. Funding is limited and given on a first-come, first-served basis.

It is not for cosmetic repairs.

Eligible projects can include: Roof repair or replacement Furnace or air conditioner repair or replacement Accessibility improvements (like ramps or handrails) Window and door replacement Concrete, asphalt, and masonry repair To qualify, you must meet the following: Earn 80% or less of the area median income (AMI) see the income chart below Own and live in the home as your main residence Have owned the home for at least one year Be current on your property taxes Have lawful residence in the US The chart below helps you determine if you meet the “80% or less AMI” requirement.

Find the number of people in your household. If your household earns that amount or less, you may qualify. The number of people in household – anyone living in your home including yourself, spouse/partner, children, parents, grandparents, and etc. Income is based on any money yourself and all adults in household receive (combined) before tax (gross income) – through a job, retirement, disability, or otherwise.

Grants are money you do not have to pay back, while loans are borrowed money that must be repaid. Whether your approved funding is a grant or a loan depends on the cost of the repairs: Repairs under $10,000 are a grant – you don’t pay it back.

Repairs over $10,000 are a zero-interest loan with no monthly payments. It’s forgiven completely if you stay in your home for 5 years. If you move sooner, the assistance must be repaid.
